Instructor Courses

If you are interested in becoming an RYA instructor then Deep Blue Sea Training can help you to achieve your ambitions. At regular intervals throughout the year we offer RYA instructor courses for Personal Watercraft (jetskis), Powerboating, Sail Cruising and Motor Cruising. Teaching on the water and in the classroom is great fun and can also be quite demanding, however it is always very satisfying and rewarding. Remember, those that you teach will rightly expect you to know what you're doing, to have the answers, and to be able to easily demonstrate the things you are asking them to do, whilst all the time being patient, friendly and approachable.

RYA Training is very highly regarded throughout the world - there are more than 2500 RYA training centres worldwide - so it follows that in order to be a successful instructor you should already be quite experienced on the water, have good theory knowledge and be able to convey what you know in a clear and logical way. Ideally it would also help if you have taken an RYA course in the last few years, so that you have recent experience of receiving RYA training.

Personal watercraft instructor

The PWCI - Personal WaterCraft Instructor Course - is a very popular first step in delivering training as an RYA instructor. This course is particularly popular with superyacht crew, or those seeking work in the superyacht industry, as for some time it has been possible for recognised superyachts to offer PWC training and issue PWC licences to charter guests. A recognised superyacht is one that has been inspected and approved by the RYA to deliver these courses, and there always appears to be a demand for good instructors.

Powerboat instructor

As an RYA Powerboat Instructor you can teach the very popular RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course. You need plenty of experience as a powerboat driver, have good knowledge of theory including colregs, tides, basic coastal navigation/postion fixing, the weather and general safety at sea.

Sail cruising instructor

As an RYA Sail Cruising Instructor you can teach practical sailing up to the very popular RYA Day Skipper sail practical course. You must hold a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore sail Certificate of Competence, and obviously need plenty of varied sailing experience. You also need have excellent knowledge of current theory including colregs, tidal theory, coastal navigation/postion fixing, meteorology, electronic navigation and general safety at sea.

As an RYA Motor Cruising Instructor you can teach practical motor boat courses up to the very popular RYA Day Skipper motor practical course. You also need have excellent knowledge of current theory including colregs, tidal theory, coastal navigation/postion fixing, meteorology, electronic navigation and general safety at sea.
